Three minutes is now all it takes to achieve underarm dryness. What’s this unicorn magic, you ask? It’s called the Brella™ SweatControl Patch™. Approved by the U.S. FDA in April 2023, this patch treats excessive underarm sweating, also known as axillary hyperhidrosis.
The Brella™ SweatControl Patch™ is available by prescription only and is made by a company called Candesant Biomedical. It delivers sweat relief through a process called targeted alkali thermolysis (TAT). When the patch is applied by a licensed healthcare provider, the sodium in the patch and the water in the sweat interact with each other to generate heat, thereby inactivating the sweat glands through what is called microthermal injury. Yay for science, right?
In the double-blind study,
- 64% of patients treated with the patch achieved Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale improvement as compared with 44% with placebo
- Measured sweat production decreased by more than 50% for most (60%) of treated patients
No needles, no injury. Just three minutes, with results lasting from 2 to 4 months according to the study. (1)
Candesant Biomedical also won a 2023 Allure Breakthrough Award for this patch that treats sweaty underarms. Congratulations to them!
As always, remember that hyperhidrosis treatment results can vary from person to person. What works for one may not work for another, but never give up hope that you may be able to find relief from your excessive sweating.
